This afternoon, my friends and I visited the Elf Fantasy Fair, on the grounds of the beautiful castle De Haar.
Last time I attended a fair like this I’d brought my 85mm – a splendid portrait lens – but given the magnificent weather I suspected the crowd would be too dense for that this time.
My 35mm lens lends itself much better for street shooting, and given the density of the throngs I thought I’d approach the event like I do shooting-from-the-hip during city walks.
This is a risky proposition; being unable to see through the viewfinder requires good eye-hand coordination (which I lack) and the wherewithal to scan through hundreds of photos to find a baker’s dozen keepers (which I love).
I do so love these events – the pageantry, the ingenuity, and the genuine enthusiasm and generosity of the attendees.
